Search feature
Adding A Search Feature
There are several options for adding a "search this site" feature to your website.
Note that if you use a third-party service, you are giving that service access to information about who searches your site and what they search it for, which may be a concern depending on the privacy practices of that third party. See, e.g., web bug for some related issues and implications.
- Many web site software packages already have a built-in search component. Look in your program's documentation for instructions on how to use and implement. Examples: MediaWiki (used for UUWiki), Microsoft Frontpage.
- It is easy to use Google to provide a site search function. See e.g. the First UU Church of Madison search page
- AtomZ.com Express Search is free for sites under 500 pages. Your pages are updated on a set weekly schedule. The service is hosted on their servers, so it can be used on all UU websites. The templates can be customized so that it looks like it's being served on your website. Examples: First UU Church of Austin (lower left corner of screen)
- Freefind.com is an alternate service similar to AtomZ.
